Dental FAQs for Kids
Marysville, WA

Child and dentist learning how to brush teeth at Grove Street Family Dentistry in Marysville, WAIt is important to have your child seen by a dentist for routine professional cleanings and routine checkups. Tooth decay is the most preventable disease seen in children. By establishing a good oral health routine, early in life, your child will be set up for a lifetime of dental wellness.

At Grove Street Family Dentistry, we work hard to be the pediatric dentist that parents and children both trust. It is important to select a pediatric dentist to meet the dental wellness needs of your child.

Why Do Baby Teeth Matter?

Your child’s baby teeth, also referred to as milk teeth, play an important role in the ongoing dental health and wellness of your child. It is easy to neglect these little teeth, with the mindset that can come from knowing that the teeth are going to fall out and be replaced in due time.
However, baby teeth should not be neglected. They definitely do matter for the dental wellness of your children. They have a role to play in the physical, emotional, and even social development of your child.

What Type of Toothbrush Does My Child Need?

You may not think much about your own toothbrush when you pick it out, beyond perhaps the types of bristles on your brush. Giving your child the choice to select his or her own toothbrush can be a great way to get them engaged with their oral wellness. Be sure that the toothbrush is one that is designed for children and ensure that it has soft or extra-soft bristles.
There are almost endless options for toothbrushes for children. Some will light up and buzz and sing fun songs that will encourage your children to keep on brushing.

At What Age Should My Child See an Orthodontist?

We typically start orthodontic exams and treatment as needed when a child turns seven, though we may work with them even earlier than that if there are clear signs that they will need orthodontic care.

The most common orthodontic procedure is placing and removing braces. Most people who need braces get them during their child or teenage years. Braces correct the position of the teeth, helping align them correctly. This eliminates conditions such as overbite and underbite that make it difficult to chew and correctly care for teeth. In recent years, many patients have used Invisalign rather than braces, but that process still falls under orthodontics.

Do You Handle Pediatric Emergencies?

Just like adults, children can have dental emergencies that require immediate attention. Pediatric emergencies can be just as serious, too, even if it does not seem to be problematic for little ones to lose their baby teeth. The team at Grove Street Family Dentistry has experience in dealing with pediatric emergencies. We are always prepared to help any of our young patients who are experiencing a pediatric emergency.
